What Green Improvements have been made?

 

  • All windows are Low-E thermal dual pane.

 

  • Heaters are very efficient hot water heat exchange systems that significantly reduce gas consumption.

 

  • All plumbing fixtures are low-flow systems, all appliances are energy efficient.

 

  • Most all interior and exterior lights are outfitted with CFL bulbs.

 

  • The exteriors of the Villas have been painted with an elastomeric paint to prevent water intrusion with caulking and weatherstripping in place.

 

  • Recycling bins are available.

 

  • All landscape irrigation is from a private on-site well.

 

  • Norton Creek (adjacent to the east end of the Villas) has been restored by the developer using professional environmentalists. It is one of Healdsburg’s major creek restorations. It is planted with over 100 native California trees and shrubs.

Individual “Green” Options

 

  • A pilot program to safely dispose of unused and unwanted medications.

 

  • Healdsburg Tote Program, a movement to purchase a HealdsBag, a canvas or polypropylene reusable tote to help end our reliance on plastic and paper bags.

 

  • Grow your own food or co-op with other gardeners at Healdsburg’s two organic community gardens one at Badger Park and Foss Creek School.

 

  • Expanded bike paths and Art Walk from Westside Road to Alexander Valley.

 

  • Ride the easy scenic bike routes through forest and vineyards with beautiful panoramas of the distant mountain ranges. Try the Eastside/Westside Loop or the Dry Creek Valley.

 

  • Enjoy splendid hiking trails around Lake Sonoma for several levels of fitness. The Woodland Ridge Trail is an easily accessible loop trail that offers an introduction to the various habitats around Lake Sonoma, and The South Lake Trail traverses the steep, upper hillside along the wooded south side of Lake Sonoma.

 

Residential/Commercial “Green” Ventures

 

  • Foss Creek Walkway with its $2.5 Million funding to be used in two phases to refurbish the existing Train Depot, connect it with Foss Creek Trail and continue down to the Russian River and the new SMART Train Right of Way.

 

  • The already funded, SMART Train (due in 2014) will connect Healdsburg with San Francisco via Larkspur Ferry.

 

  • The City of Healdsburg requires certain construction projects to incorporate green building measures.

 

  • Healdsburg is one of biggest users of renewable energy in the country with 43% of its electricity from geothermal, wind and solar.

 

  • Healdsburg offers Energy Audits and Energy Improvements Programs.

 

  • Sonoma County Energy Independence Program (SCEIP) making financing affordable for energy efficiency, water efficiency and renewable energy improvements.

 

  • Restaurants participate in a food scrap waste recycling program which produces compost for the community gardens.

 

  • FOG (Fats, Oils & Grease) PROGRAM with two city locations for proper oil disposal and bio-diesel processing.

 

  • SonoMax Materials Exchange – a free online resource to find or discard a myriad of items, from packaging peanuts to plastic buckets to pallets, where “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

 

  • Conservation and Water Awareness: Associate of the Russian River Watershed which coordinates regional programs for clean water, fisheries restoration and watershed enhancement.
